I’m a criminal defense attorney based in Houston with a focus on family criminal law cases.

I graduated from Tulane Law School in 2008 in the top 5% of my class. While at Tulane, I earned awards for my legal writing and trial advocacy.

After graduation, I moved to Houston where I was hired as a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

In my nearly seven years with the District Attorney’s Office, I prosecuted thousands of cases and tried dozens of cases to juries, ranging from misdemeanor DWIs and assault cases to serious felonies such as burglaries, aggravated assaults, and murders.

In addition to working in numerous felony and misdemeanor courts, I also worked in numerous specialized divisions.

As a prosecutor in the Family Criminal Law Division, I handled all types of domestic violence cases, from misdemeanors such as assault on a family member, terroristic threat, harassment, and protective order violations, to more serious felony cases such as stalking, assault on a family member by impeding breathing, and aggravated assault on a family member. As the Misdemeanor Section Chief, I trained newer prosecutors on how to try domestic violence cases.

While at the District Attorney’s Office, I also worked in the Vehicular Crimes Section where I handled hit and run cases, street racing cases, and intoxication manslaughter cases. I also handled juvenile cases as a prosecutor in the Juvenile Division.

As a criminal defense attorney, I use the experience and knowledge I gained as a prosecutor to my clients’ advantage. I keep my caseload low to ensure that I can give each and every client’s case the personal attention that it deserves.

“I recently had a felony charge of injury to a child, facing an offer of 5 years in prison. Prior to hiring Stephen as my lawyer, I had another lawyer who did nothing at all besides accept money and reset my court date. At the time that Stephen took my case, the grand jury had indicted it and he had to work extremely hard to make up for what my first lawyer didn’t do. Stephen is very patient and understanding. He is very knowledgeable about the law and he’s very honest and up front...”

“Start to finish, Stephen was with me the whole way. I couldn’t have asked for a better attorney to represent me in my case. I was faced with a long drawn out misdemeanor assault case, but with perseverance and patience we were able to resolve the case with a full dismissal within seven months. When I had a question Stephen was there to answer it in great detail and he always went above and beyond to defend me..."
